10 Useful Tips for Finding What You Want

1

Be sure you're searching the right database. Select "Internet Listings" if you're looking for companies, select "Product Listings" if you're seeking a particular item for sale.

2Remember that 9 times out of 10, browsing produces more relevant results than searching.

3Avoid the use of very common words. Words such as "new" or "company" are found in quite a large number of ads and can confuse your search results with irrelevant hits.
4If you find you are getting too many results, try adding additional words to refine your query. Longer words are generally more effective than short words.
5If you find that you are getting too few results, use fewer search terms. You might also want to check the spelling of your search terms.

6Do not use punctuation or quotation marks. This will make it more difficult for the search engine to find you more relevant results.

7Try using the shortest form of a word. "Gold", for instance, will produce more results than "goldplated" or "golden".

8Remember that searching is a re-iterative process. If you don't find what you're looking for on the first try, it doesn't mean that your information doesn't exist. Refine your search strategy.
9If you encounter a "NULL" result set, try thinking of another word that means the same as what you're looking for.
